FAQ

Planning a photo tour in Mongolia often brings up practical questions about preparation, booking, and travel. To make things easier, we’ve gathered the most common queries from our guests and provided clear answers below. This section will help you understand what to expect, how to prepare, and how our tours are organized—so you can focus on enjoying the journey and capturing unforgettable images.

📸 About the Photography Experience
Q: What makes these tours different from a standard sightseeing tour?
A: Our itineraries are built by photographers, for photographers. We prioritize “Golden Hour” lighting, meaning we are on-site at sunrise and sunset. We also arrange private photography sessions with local models and nomads, which are included in your tour price.

Q: Do I need to be a professional to join?
A: Not at all. We welcome everyone from hobbyists to professionals. Because we limit our vehicles to only 3 photographers per Land Cruiser, you get personalized attention and plenty of space for your gear.

Q: What gear should I bring?
A: We recommend a mirrorless or DSLR body with a wide-angle lens (16-35mm) for landscapes and a telephoto lens (70-200mm or 100-400mm) for wildlife and portraits. Don’t forget a sturdy tripod, a cleaning kit for dust, and extra batteries, as charging points in Ger camps can be limited.

🚐 Logistics & Comfort
Q: How do we travel across the Mongolian terrain?
A: We use a fleet of Toyota Land Cruisers (200/300 series). We strictly maintain a limit of 3 travelers per vehicle to ensure comfort during long drives, plus a dedicated separate vehicle for all group luggage.

Q: What is the accommodation like in the Gobi Desert?
A: In Ulaanbaatar, you stay in 4-star hotels. In the desert, you stay in authentic Ger camps (twin-sharing). While these are traditional dwellings, they are comfortable and provide a truly immersive experience. Please note that modern toilets and showers are available at most camps, but can be basic.

Q: Will I have internet access?
A: Wi-Fi is generally unavailable in the Gobi. Cellular connection is limited. We highly recommend purchasing a Unitel or Mobicom SIM card upon arrival in Ulaanbaatar if you need to stay connected.

🍲 Food & Water
Q: What kind of meals are provided?
A: We provide three hearty meals a day. Breakfasts are usually continental (eggs, toast, coffee). Lunches and dinners feature traditional Mongolian meats (beef, lamb, chicken) with rice or pasta.

Vegetarians: We can arrange vegetarian options with advance notice, though choices may be simpler in remote areas.

Water: Unlimited bottled drinking water is provided throughout the entire journey.

💳 Booking & Policies
Q: How do I secure my spot?
A: Since our groups are small and highly specialized, we require 100% payment of the minimum offered price via bank transfer to confirm your booking.

Q: What if the group size is small?
A: Our base prices are optimized for groups of 7 or more. If a tour proceeds with 6 or fewer participants, a logistical surcharge will be added to cover the fixed costs of vehicles, fuel, and staff.

Q: Is insurance included?
A: No. All participants are required to have their own comprehensive medical and travel insurance. We also strongly recommend insurance that covers your expensive photographic equipment.

🌍 Travel Essentials
Q: What is the best time to visit?
A: For the Gobi and Central Mongolia, June through September offers the best balance of manageable temperatures (+23°C to +30°C) and dramatic lighting.

Q: Do you help with Visas?
A: Yes. Once your booking is confirmed, we provide the necessary official invitation letters and supporting documents to help you secure your Mongolian visa.
